Hlina (2023-Present)

I am currently developing Hlina, a 3D adventure game with a distinctive clay aesthetic, set to be released in 2025. The Demo can be found on the Steam page which is available here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2693560/Hlna/

My friend Jan, whom I met at university, founded a studio and now serves as the director of Omnia Ludus. He needed a programmer to assist in developing his game, so he reached out to me for help with the project. After technical issues with the game engine caused the original programmer to leave the team, I stepped in to review, refine, and expand the existing code.

We have a dedicated time on Sundays when we're both free to work on the game. During these sessions, Jan shares his vision, provides guidance, and helps me address any underlying project issues.

We use source control software called Unity DevOps (formerly Plastic SCM), which allows me to check out and upload files to a shared team workspace. This setup enables the team to instantly download and work with the most up-to-date version of the game.

Game Playthrough

The game is broken up into numerous days where the player has to travel to work and undergo a series of mini-games throughout the day. This problem encourages the player to stay energized as they will have a slower mouse speed and prevent the character from losing too much money.

Gameplay loop: The player begins each day at home, having breakfast to gain energy, but it costs money. This is followed by a minigame at the factory, where he works to earn money. This income is crucial for supporting his mother. After work, the player's routine includes commuting and spending evenings with friends at the local pub, balancing social interactions with his responsibilities.

  • Teleporting the player into place when entering and leaving different levels

  • I had to rework the dialogue as it was causing issues within the engine, and the software would need the developer to restart the engine to get it working again.

  • The factory picker mini-game has a unique mouse that slows down based on the player's stamina, making dragging and dropping more challenging.

  • Rework the factory picker game to work better with the player interacting with the physics.

  • Using 3d widgets to act as Indications for players to interact with actors
